Dress and Appearance Standards

We want our children to become accustomed to dressing for success. When discussing the wearing of uniforms with children, it is helpful to talk about all the various professions which wear uniforms. Children should consider themselves as young people who have the job of being a student. Legacy is a workplace for students, a work setting where the standard for both academic and conduct is high. The school dress code seeks to complement and reflect those high standards while also helping maintain the students’ focus on the task at hand and on issues of personal character.

Legacy Classical Christian Academy has two main types of uniforms: the formal or dress uniform and the everyday uniform. Compliance with the school dress code is required.

Parents are responsible for their child’s compliance with grooming and uniform standards. Teachers or the Administrator will make the final determination on compliance with the standards. A note will be sent home for a child’s initial dress code violation. A further violation of non-compliance with the dress standards will result with the student being kept out of class until the situation is corrected.

  • Uniforms must be worn properly and neatly, be clean and in good repair
  • Shirts should always be tucked in
  • Skirts, skorts, jumpers, and shorts should not be short. Their length must be no more than 2 inches from the top of the knee.
  • The Legacy logo can be on Lands’ End polo shirts, v-neck vests and v-neck sweaters, otherwise no other logos
  • Conservative jewelry; please see handbook changes for jewelry options by grade; only clear nail polish is acceptable; no make-up except clear lip gloss. 
  • Hair must be well-groomed and clean, avoiding extreme styles or coloring

Dress School Uniform is to be worn on specified days as announced, school picture days, formal field trip days, school formal presentations, or other formal school functions.

Everyday Uniform is to be worn on all regular school days, to informal school functions, and when announced by the teacher or Administrator. Students will have options and variety on a day-to-day basis, but all clothing must stay within the guidelines. Various lines of school uniform clothing are available at many local department stores. DENNIS Uniform, French Toast, and Lands’ End carry these items.

Everyday School Uniform

Boys: Top options
  • White or Navy Legacy logo Polo Collared Shirt (Lands’ End)
  • White, Navy, Gold or Royal (Gold & Royal only from DENNIS Uniform) Polo Collared Shirt

  • Navy tie (optional)

  • Navy, khaki (not tan) or black slacks or cords

  • Black or brown leather belt
  • Navy, black, khaki or white socks calf-length or ankle-length socks (socks need to be seen above shoes)
  • Conservative Tennis Shoes (i.e. solid white with small strip of blue or black allowed, brown or khaki shoes)  or Black or Brown Loafers. No high-tops. If your child cannot tie laces, buckles or Velcro required.

Girls: Top options

  • White tennis shoes (no light-ups), black, navy or brown loafers, leather tie-ups or Mary Jane type of shoes. If your child cannot tie laces, buckles or Velcro required.
